If You Love Me

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. (KJV)
In verse 23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. (NIV)

What are Jesus’ commands? What is He talking about in those 2 verses?

Many of us when we read the word command, we immediately thought of laws, precepts, and perhaps commandments. But God’s commands and teachings is more than what we read with our eyes. They are our actions, our thoughts, behaviors, and beliefs. They are the fruit that is manifested in our lives.

It’s being obedient to the prompting and leading of the Holy Spirit. You know what I’m talking about. It’s the feeling you get or have had for quite some time that tells you, you should really stop a particular behavior.

It’s doing what is right in the face of wrong. It’s staying connected to vine and not succumbing to the desires of the flesh.
It’s not being afraid to admit you are a child of God. A co-heir with Christ. A Believer.

When you truly love someone you truly desire to please them and are willing to do whatever it takes to make them happy.

Well that’s what Jesus is trying to get us to understand. If we truly love Him we will obey His commands. Not because we have to. Not because He is Sovereign, but because we want to; because we truly love Him.

How can you say you “love me” and you don’t show it? How can you say you “love me” but refuse to act like it. How can you say you “love me” and consciously and repeatedly sin against me?

God tells us He loves all the time. How? By nature, by new mercies we are granted every day: By grace, by protecting us, by covering us, by forgiving us, and most of all, by sending His son to die on the cross for us.

Love…it means many things to different people.

How do you show your love to God?

If you love Jesus you will keep His commandments.
